A brother, son and uncle who lost his life on Oct 31, 1991 while working in a scrap steel yard when he was struck by the crane’s magnet. The crane operator was unaware that there were people in that area of the yard. Erich was 19 years old and had his whole life ahead of him. He loved dirt biking, hanging with his friends, music, and was considering going to college to to be an aircraft maintenance engineer. He had a great sense of humor and was a stand up guy who was loved by so many people. His loss is something that my family has never recovered from and we would like to remind all young workers to always put their safety first – no matter what your foreman may tell you. If you feel it’s unsafe then listen to your gut. There’s no good in a paycheck that you’ll never live to spend. Work smart. Live long. Erich would approve this message.

Thank you for this Stef. I’m passing this on to my now 19 yr old who has taken a job as a forestry fire fighter.
We will never forget.

Such a tragic, senseless loss of young life. I will be sharing this with our sons who work in the trades.
